A truly inspiring story of one guy doing it all his own way. Building houses, workshops and boats, living ‘off the grid’ in style and comfort.
“…a 60-year-old guy, with a handmade hat and a twinkle in his eye..." "...The quality of Louie’s construction was astounding. Everything was beautifully designed, and immaculately carried out. It was all tuned in, thought out, crafted finely. This wasn’t Fine Homebuilding. This wasn’t fussy craftsmanship for millionaires. It was a rare combination of owner-builder-designer-master craftsman, all to a human a liveable scale. There was no excess, no fat. This guy made everything: house and shop, chairs and stools, garden cart, cabinets, wood-fired water heaters, hydroelectric system, photovoltaic electricity; he was not only a master carpenter but an arc welder and could figure out how to construct just about anything.”
Unu-life commends people like Louie who are prepared to do their own thing. It takes a special kind of determination and courage not to mention resourcefulness and physical skill to be able to be self-sufficient. Very few people – if anyone at all – are completely self-sufficient these days. But it is inspiring when one finds someone trying in their own way; whether it is growing all your own vegetables or, like Louie, building your own house and power source.
