The Centre for Alternative Technology ...volunteering
Firstly I did a week’s volunteering, helping out wherever it was needed and generally getting to know the place. It was great fun and very relaxed – you really felt like part of the team straight away – working with all the staff. I met some really nice people with all sorts of backgrounds and lifestyles. (I have to admit some things came as a bit of a shock… I had been expecting a hippie feel to the place but hadn’t reckoned on skinny dipping and nude saunas… but ‘when in Rome…’). The work was gentle and varied and didn’t really feel like work most of the time – though this could have had something to do with the amazing weather we had. Plenty of tea breaks and chat helped the days fly by. The meals were brilliant – full breakfast and vegetarian feasts lunch and dinner – my chocolate habit was also catered for in the visitors shop with Green & Blacks Maya Gold!
